Foster Dad Charged With Murder After 10-Month-Old Baby Dies in 100+ Degree Car

A Kansas man accused of leaving his 10-month-
old foster daughter in a hot car has been
charged with murder .

On Wednesday, 29-year-old Seth Jackson was
charged with one count of first-degree murder
in the death of 10-month-old Kadillak.
Jackson is also banned from having contact with
his husband and the couple’s other five adopted
and foster children.

Jackson and his partner were in the process of
adopting Kadillak when she died.
On July 24, Jackson reportedly took two of his
kids out of the car but forgot Kadillak was in the
backseat. His partner was in the backyard and
thought all the children were inside at the time,
which is why only Jackson was found culpable.

It took more than two hours before Jackson
remembered the baby was in the car but by
that time the infant had died from the heat.
Jackson’s attorney, John Stang, says he doesn’t
believe murder charges are warranted.

“The death of a child is an awful thing, but this
person is looking at 15 more years than
someone who was drunk driving and ran into a
car and killed someone,” Stang told NBC News.
The child’s maternal grandmother, Cindy Poe,
was also surprised Jackson was charged with
murder.
“He loved those kids and they love him so
much,” she told NBC. “I’m mad but at the same
time, accidents do happen. I’m sure he is beat
down inside.”

Kadillak is believed to be the 18th child to die
after being left in a hot car this year.
Only one other parent has been charged with
murder so far, Ross Harris of Georgia who is
accused of intentionally leaving his 22-month-
old son in the car for seven hours.
