Indian police report that a 10-year-old girl was
raped after a village chief ordered for her to be
sexually assaulted as “punishment” after her
father beat a man who broke into their house.
According to reports, a 25-year-old man who
was neighbors with the family broke into their
house drunk and tried to molest the man’s wife.
The father attacked the intruder but, the next
day, the bruised and beaten neighbor told
village elders that he was assaulted without
provocation.
In their infinite morality, the elders in Eastern
India’s Bokaro district ordered that he can rape
the man’s 10-year-old daughter as “revenge.”
The Times of India reports that the elders
decided the girl’s “violent father had to be
punished.”
According to the Times, the 25-year-old dragged
the girl into a wooden area near her home and
raped her against the pleas of her mother.
The attack reportedly lasted close to an hour
and the girl was left lying in blood.
According to reports, other villagers were too
afraid to intervene for fear of revenge from the
elders.
Of course, we have reported all year on India’s
obscene rape epidemic that largely targets
young girls living in rural areas.
Earlier this year, two girls, aged 12 and 14, were
found hanging from a tree after being brutally
gang raped.
Just days after another woman in the same
region came forward to claim that she was gang
raped by four police officers.
In another case, a girl was badly beaten and
gang raped before her assailants threw acid in
her face to hide her identity .
According to the National Crime Records Bureau,
24,923 rapes were reported in the country last
year and women’s groups believe the figure is
much higher because the majority of rapes are
not reported.
