Process Africa’s raw materials, Mahama to multinationals [Photos]

President John Mahama on Tuesday made a strong case for multinational companies to consciously add value and process Africa’s raw materials on the continent.

Speaking during a panel discussion on ‘Employment & Decent Work for Inclusive Development’ organized by the International Labour Organization in New York, the President noted that processing Africa’s raw materials on the continent will create sustainable jobs for the youth.

He also suggested that another way of creating employment on the continent “is to equip the teeming youth with Technical and Vocational skills to fit into the current job market, rather training more people in the humanities who come out to seek non-existent jobs.”

The discussion, which was organised by the Ford Foundation also featured other panelists including; the Chilean President, Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, the Director General of the International Labour Organisation Guy Ryder and the Chairman & CEO of The Coca Cola Company, Muhtar Kent.
