Lagos: Suspected Suicide Bomber Arrested At Lagos Airport

Police said the suspect was acting suspiciously and was arrested by airport security personnel just as he attempted to detonate an explosive device he wore around his body. When approached the man, who has not yet been identified, began to struggle with airport security personnel whilst clutching an object that was tied around his neck. A disabled man, who police say was
planning to bomb the Murtala
Mohammed International Airport in
Lagos, was arrested late on
Monday. The incident threw the airport into
mass chaos as travelers scampered for cover

within the airport.

Witnesses at the airport who saw police make
the dramatic arrest, say the man was arrested
for allegedly planning to bomb the Centrex unit
of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.
At press time, it is unclear if the would-be
bomber had connections with the Boko Haram
Islamist group, which has stepped-up its
activities in Northeastern Nigeria in recent
months. The story appeared in the Daily
Independent newspaper late Monday evening
Once apprehended, the man was handed over
to security personnel stationed at the Beesam
Police Station, which is located within the
airport. Mr. Waheed Salahu, the Commissioner
of Police, Airport Command, declined to
comment further to reporters, saying it would
be premature to talk with the media at the moment.
